20 week ultrasound...it's a..

Well, today is the day that we find out the sex of our second baby. It is hard to believe we are at 20 weeks. Chasing around a toddler sure keeps the mind occupied. With Bailey, all we could do was count down the days to the 20 week ultrasound. Alas, the day finally arrived. TJ had cleared his morning clinic so that he could be there. First things, first though. The ultrasound tech asked us if we wanted to know the sex, so she set out to find the goods...or lack thereof. Once again, TJ could tell before me...it is a GIRL! Bailey gets to have a sister and life-long friend. Being one of sisters myself (as well as my Mom), I know just how special this bond will be.

Finding out the sex was the biggest part of the appointment for us that day. The tech and the doctor had many, many more measurements to take. All of them turned out within normal limits. So far, we have a healthy baby girl.

Sorry teej...you will be outnumbered! Guess we'll have to get a male dog.

First Ultrasound

Today was around 10 weeks and we had the first ultrasound. Everything looked right on target. Size is correct for May due date, heartbeat...beating. And only one.

Morning Sick

Have had a low-grade morning sickness since about Labor Day weekend, when we first found out we were expecting. Luckily, no throwing up, but my stomach has bothered me just enough to make eating difficult. And cooking. And shredding chicken. And even looking at pictures of recipes. TJ, I am so sorry I haven't felt like cooking! Hopefully just a few more weeks of this and I'll be into the second trimester. Last time, it seemed like it was to the day that I started feeling better after 12 weeks.

Two weeks ago I went to the doctor-but just saw the nurse-for the first appointment. Labwork, flu shot, and their info they are required to give; "now's not the time to start using cocaine!" Calculated the due date to be May 10, 2011.

Tomorrow I go to see the doctor for the first time. Am about 9+ weeks so I expect they'll do the first ultrasound on the peanut to do some measurements and make sure the due date seems right. I am a little anxious...one or two heartbeats...and this time I'll be alone. TJ has patients booked in this, his second week as an attending. He is busy trying to get his practice up and running. Will post the ultrasound picture tomorrow!

Code Name: Cookie

We found out Saturday of Labor Day weekend 2010 that we are expecting baby #2. We will be calling this baby "Cookie" in the womb. This baby was conceived in Chicago, while I was visiting TJ during a 2 week rotation there. Chicago is in Cook County, hence the name, Cookie. I don't go see the doctor until the end of this month, but it looks like the due date will be mid-May. Perfect time for having a baby. Sorry Scott, looks like you will be sharing your birth month with your new niece/nephew!
